Today marks the first time in almost a month that I have painted my nails! They kept breaking and then I was on vacation and decided to give them a bit of a break. Honestly, I also just haven’t felt like anything beauty. I have been quite bummed, like many Canadians, about what is happening with the US and unlike the first time he was elected, this time feels worse. No one is standing up for what’s right and the actual thought of Canada being annexed could actually happen if our economy slowly starts to shrink. It’s all very depressing and my ultimate Dystopian nightmare would be if this actually led to war between the US and Canada! Like, how crazy would that be in the 21st century?! This means that right now, we are literally in the history books as the trade war has already started (unprovoked).
With all of this happening and thinking about how it affects us as Canadians, beauty blogging suddenly feels…so small. I didn’t feel this way when we were all stuck at home during the pandemic. I truly felt like the blog was an escape and a place to journal. Yes, I was fearful, but I definitely wasn’t afraid of nuclear war. I have no idea what I will do in this space for now. Will it be an escape where everything is FINE? Or will it be a place where I can rant away? I truly don’t know as it’s not like I can really control anything. We are pawns in this nonsensical political monopoly so maybe I should just be happy for now.
On that note – let’s get on to the nails.
This month’s theme is “Green”/”Spring” which I sort of cheated with as this colour is teal, but it was just speaking to me! I started off with Essence “Island Hopping” which is a stunning and juicy looking teal and layered it with Cirque’s “Paraiba” which is one of my favourite glitter polishes. It has a teal base so you can use it alone as I have before, but it also works as a one coat topper.
I hope everyone is having a good week, but extra love to all the Canadians out there and Americans who are opposed to the trade war <3
