Purchased by me
In light of trying to support Canada, I have decided to cut my Ipsy subscription in half and do it every other month. I still get excited when the products arrive as they are all usually new to me so I would still like to have the subscription if I can. I have slowed down on beauty purchases a lot since the beginning of the year as I have been purchasing Pixyls and diamond paintings so I think having a little bimonthly surprise is acceptable!
The theme of January’s Ipsy Bag is “Clean Slate” and starting the year off with the essentials. When I saw that there was a Laura Mercier setting spray in my bag during the sneak peek, I was most excited to try it!
DR LILI FAN | Probiotic Recovery Cream

I love a good probiotic moisturizer as a healthy microbiome means happy skin. This moisturizer has a bouncy texture and absorbs well into the skin leaving a slight tacky finish so I prefer to use this moisturizer at night. I received a deluxe sample valued at $20 USD.
WHAT’S UP BEAUTY | Wind Glider Gel Eyeliner Pencil in 03 Burgundy

What a coincidence that I just bought a burgundy liquid eyeliner as I have been oddly craving this colour. It is nice to have a gel liner option as it is more forgiving in terms of precision and this formula is super smooth and pigmented. I don’t know how often I will be using this colour, so I feel like having a full size of this pencil is not as amazing as it should be. I received a FULL SIZE valued at $19 USD.
SHAINA B MIAMI | Lipstick in Miami Spice

Shade wise, this is a beautiful brown pigmented lipstick. It’s warm and bold, but still neutral enough in colour to wear daily. The formula was very creamy and colour payoff was great, but it did not have great longevity because of the creaminess. I received a deluxe sample valued at $13.33 USD.

PAMPER AND POLISH | Sugar and Coconut Infused Body Scrub

I liked this! The coconut scent was very natural and not artificially sweet and the sugar granules were fairly dense, but melted away. I just find it strange that this is a body scrub and only comes in one size at 50mL. That’s not very much! This is more like hand scrub size. I even double checked on the Pamper and Polish website and 50mL is indeed the full size of this! I received the FULL SIZE valued at $30 USD.
LAURA MERCIER | Translucent Pure Setting Spray

Saving the best for last! This setting spray is fragrance and alcohol-free and promises to lock in makeup for 16 hours! I love this travel size and will probably re-use the bottle for another setting spray once I am finished with it. So, this sprays on clear and does seal my face in for the day, but I should mention that because it is such a good sealant, right after it dries down and you move your face, it starts to feel like you are “cracking” the seal. It is a strange feeling initially, but I stopped noticing after a few minutes. This is a deluxe sample valued at $21 USD (the mini size on Sephora for Canadians is $29 CDN)

Final verdict: This Glam Bag adds up to $103.33 USD and the mini size of the Laura Mercier setting spray already paid for the bag and because I wanted to try this item, it made January’s bag totally worth it. Everything else was nice and I have been using all of the other products, but I think the body scrub was way more expensive than it should be.
My beauty spending is at an all time low so far this year and with economic uncertainty looming, I’m not sure if I’ll be doing much of it at all this year. How about you? Especially as a Canadian?
