Purchased by me
Ah, trendy haircare. Sometimes I hate myself for giving into the hype of certain brands and Gisou (“hair” in Farsi) was one of them. I think Negin Mirsalehi is gorgeous (at least according to her Instagram page) and has deliciously looking healthy hair (again, according to her Instagram page) while also having an attractive story of how her family has been raising bees for 6 generations with Negin herself being a beekeeper! All of the Gisou products contain honey from the Mirsalehi beehives which is quite interesting, but I can’t help but approach this luxury haircare line with a grain of salt because Negin’s image is so incredibly curated (like many) that it’s hard to know what’s real anymore, but curiosity got the best of me and when the opportunity came for me to try sample sizes of all of Gisou’s bestsellers, I thought “Why the hell not?”
Honey Infused Hair Wash Shampoo
The first Gisou product I purchased was the Propolis Infused Heat Protecting Spray which had SUCH a strong floral scent that I actually had to move into another room whenever I sprayed it which made me so sad since this was a $54 product that I was just using to not waste it! Everyone RAVED about how good Gisou products smelled so it was disappointing when the first product I got did not live up to the hype. Thankfully, this was NOT the case for all four products in this set!
The shampoo smelled lovely, but was just OK. I did not find this shampoo particularly hydrating and for my coarse, colour-treated hair, it actually left it feeling a bit dry to the touch which was something I could feel even in the shower. It also did not lather much which is not a huge dealbreaker for me, but when the rest of the product experience was just “meh”, it just adds to the overall feeling that this product is not worth the money.
Honey Infused Conditioner
Again, this smells absolutely divine, but just like the shampoo I did not feel this product was worth the price tag. It was only mildly hydrating and if I did not use a hair mask, my hair would be so tangled and feel textured to the touch. Maybe this product would work better on thinner hair? Although with my hair being so porous, you would think this conditioner would sink right in! Anyway, it was all very sad and I will be using up the rest of this product just to not waste it.
Honey Infused Hydrating Hair Mask
In place of the conditioner, I would just use this! This mask made a much more noticeable difference at smoothing and softening my hair with no residue, BUT I did not think that this performed any better than the Garnier Fructis Hair Masks though I will note that this mask does not contain any silicones while most drugstore masks do. I have used A LOT of hair masks in my day because of my hair and this one is nice, better than the Gisou conditioner, but not nice enough for me to buy the full size. Thankfully if you are truly curious about this mask, the mini size at 75mL is more than enough for a couple of uses so you can really get a sense of how the product works for your hair. I used it mainly on my ends and got about 7 uses out of it and used every last bit!
Honey Infused Hair Oil
Saving the best for last! This is the product that I was REALLY wanting to try and I honestly want to rub this oil all over my body! The scent is just so luscious, but just beware that this a thicker oil so too much will make your hair look greasy. I can get away with about 1.5 droppers on just the ends of my hair and it actually worked at softening the ends and adding a bit of shine. I can even use it on consecutive days when I am not washing my hair and not have my hair feel weighed down, but then again, I have thirsty hair. As a hair oil, there are definitely equivalent ones at a lower price point and “better” ones with regards to not leaving your hands feeling greasy, but I sort of treat hair oils like fragrance and tend to rotate based on their scents.
Final verdict: I think that the scent of these Gisou products is fantastic, but the actual results fall flat for some products and are just OK for others. These products are priced VERY luxuriously so I really wanted them to be amazing considering all of the hype, but I think that’s all it is – hype. Oddly enough, I still want to try every new Gisou product that gets released, but I don’t think I would ever buy a full size of anything.
