Coming in 18 shades (though it says only 9 on the Canadian website vs. the US website), these lip glosses are highly pigmented, shiny and are infused with spicy ginger that promises to plump lips with continued use. And why is it called “Duck” Plump? I don’t know when this trend started, but for awhile I think every girl’s selfie pose involved pursing their lips together to look like, well, a duck, I actually still think I see this from time to time…has it been 20 years already since this trend started? Everything old is coming back now so I wouldn’t be surprised!
These stoutly shaped tubes come with what I would consider to be a mega doe-foot applicator! I don’t necessarily have narrow lips, but I have to wipe off almost half of what comes out because the applicator is loaded with just SO MUCH product! The pigmentation is also intense as promised and while it does not stay super shiny for more than an hour, the colour that is left behind is quite nice.
Does it plump? Let me just say that NYX did not mess around as I have never in my life applied something so intensely fiery to my lips or any part of my body! Holy moly! Firstly, in the ingredients list while there is a mention of ginger extract, the ingredient that is in higher concentration is Capsicum frutescens fruit extract which comes from chilli peppers. I think THAT is where the heat is coming from!
In terms of spice comparison, I have tried all levels of Too Faced Lip Injection and DuWop Lip Venom which I would consider to be two of the more iconic lip plumping products, but Duck Plump, if applied using the full amount on the wand (which is what I did the first time I tried it) is like 10x more intense mainly because it STAYS spicy on the lips for like an hour! It does start to die down, but you can still feel that tingle hours after application so be warned!
