Hold on to your hats everyone because NENA has a new serum out! In collaboration with Talaysay Campo, a Squamish and Sechelt nation Indigenous health and wellness advocate, Theda x NENA incorporates Campo’s mother’s Indigenous botanist teachings and Talaysay’s love for health and wellness. Like all NENA products, this serum also uses Glacial Oceanic Mineral Water from Northern British Columbia!

What makes this serum special? In addition to Glacial Oceanic Mineral Water, this serum also contains West Coast Cedar Oil to help eliminate acne-causing bacteria, Vitamin C in the form of Ascorbyl Glucoside, hyaluronic acid, peptides and bakuchiol! Talk about a dream serum with a West Coast attitude! Oh, and it’s also made right here in British Columbia!

This serum works to strengthen the skin barrier, improve skin elasticity and texture and promote collagen production. There is also no added fragrance or silicones and is suitable for all ages and skin types.

The design on the packaging is very different from NENA’s core collection, but I am loving it! The frosted glass and the gold accents all scream luxurious and made for a skincare step that I really looked forward to doing! This set also came with a really pretty facial roller to use right after serum application to promote more efficient absorption of product and a radiant complexion. The roller had “THEDA x NENA” engraved right on the handle and was also a sturdy weight and ergonomically pleasant to roll with.

Two things did surprise me about this serum – the consistency and the scent! This turned out to be a creamy serum which is not as common, but it is in no way heavy on the skin. While it is more on the hydrating side, you can easily still use a moisturizer on top. There were some nights that were more humid so I used this serum as a serum/moisturizer as it leaves a soft, hydrating finish to the skin.

Secondly, this smells like a fresh pine forest! I like my natural scents quite a bit and inhaling this serum definitely made me feel more connected to nature. I also liked that this scent element further reiterated the influence of Campo’s mother’s teachings. I only used this serum at night so this scent also had aromatherapeutic purposes.

Final verdict: I have always enjoyed all of NENA’s products and this serum was no exception! I liked that this serum was multi-purpose and was hydrating on days where my skin felt more parched and dehydrated. As I have said in previous reviews, because of my fairly comprehensive skincare routine, my skin is already at a certain level where there is not a lot room to improve so seeing a difference in products is challenging. What I WILL say is that my skin maintained its brightness level while I used this serum and the texture of my skin was always soft and bouncy. Despite this being a cream serum, I could still comfortably sheet mask on top which you all know is VERY important to me! The ingredients are top notch as always and supporting a local brand with continuous support for Indigenous people makes me feel even more proud to use NENA’s products!
