Some products come together quickly. Ocean Wave Cleanser wasn’t one of them. Our latest launch was years in the making — and full transparency, it took longer than most. “It took over 30 submissions to get it exactly right,” explains Nikki Haber, Associate Director of Product Development.
We tried. We failed. And we tried again. “It was hard to achieve that unique waterlight texture that didn’t feel heavy or greasy, but still left skin feeling soft, nourished and hydrated,” adds Nikki.
Two years later, we’ve finally done it. “I’ve always loved the idea of oil cleansing, but never the heaviness or oily residue that comes with it,” says Jenefer Palmer, our founder and Chief Seaweed Officer. “So I created something new: a lightweight (I like to call it “waterlight”) cleansing oil with a unique bi-phase formula.”
Unlike traditional cleansing oils, Ocean Wave Cleanser gently washes away impurities without stripping your skin, and rinses clean without leaving behind an oily after-feel. The result? Skin that’s soft, hydrated and feels as good as it looks.
A New Way to Wash Away the Day
Hydrating & softening cleansing oil

Cleansing + makeup removing pads

Ocean Wave Cleanser features two phases that work together to cleanse the skin: an oil phase and a water phase. “The oil phase dissolves makeup, impurities, and excess sebum. The water phase washes it all away, leaving skin soft, balanced and hydrated,” Jenefer explains.
Creating a clean, lightweight cleansing oil wasn’t easy. “We knew the challenges,” Nikki says. “Developing this formula required a deep understanding of how the oil and water phases interact at the moment of activation. It was incredibly hard to ensure each phase was optimized for its role, and that, when combined through shaking, they’d transform into a seamless, effective cleansing experience.”
Next-Level Clean
It also took time to find ingredients that met our clean standards. “We were incredibly intentional with every ingredient, balancing efficacy with sensorial feel,” Nikki says.
Traditional cleansing oils and balms often rely on PEGs (polyethylene glycols), petroleum-based compounds that act as surfactants, humectants, or emulsifiers. While PEGs are widely used and generally considered safe, some studies suggest a small risk of skin irritation. So we had to find another way.
There are only so many surfactants that meet our strict formulation standards. In the end, we formulated Ocean Wave Cleanser with decyl glucoside, a plant-based surfactant that effectively removes dirt and excess oil — without compromising skin.
Sea Your Cleanest, Softest Skin
It took time, but it was worth it. “What I love most is how incredibly soft my skin feels afterward,” Jenefer says. Some team members have even described the post-cleanse feel as “freakishly soft.”
“Plus, it’s a shake-to-activate formula, which is so fun to use!” adds Nikki. “I’ve been using it for a couple of months now, and I’m hooked,” Jenefer continues.
We couldn’t agree more.
