Purchased by me
In true Jayne fashion, I have been sitting on this Glow Recipe review for awhile partly because I find it incredibly difficult now to spend my nights blogging after working for 10 hours in retail AND because I kept having to take breaks from certain products because would start to look “off”. Last summer, while I was on my birthday staycation, I started feeling the excitement of blogging again and wanting to do little mini reviews of certain products that I had been wanting to try.
I used to shop at Glow Recipe BEFORE they had their own brand back when their website was a destination for some of the most unique Korean beauty products. When they launched their own brand, it was exciting and like everyone else, I have numerous sizes of their Watermelon Sleeping Mask and Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer. I tried to get onboard with both of these products, but I could never quite stick to using them. I was not a huge fan of the artificial watermelon scent and I never felt like the products matched well with my skin. The packaging was so cute though that I never wanted to get rid of any of the products and here I am trying again with a whole new set of Glow Recipe products!

While Glow Recipe took the skincare world by storm with its instantly Instagrammable products, I have hung back a bit in trying their stuff again. I loved their Papaya Cleansing Balm and then saw that it had vanished from the Sephora website so I have not felt the need to try most of their product releases for the last 6-7 years. When I saw this Fruit Babies set from Sephora, it seemed exciting to try an entire routine that was completely new to me!
Avocado Ceramide Moisture Barrier Cleanser
I have always had really good luck with Glow Recipe’s cleansers from their Cleansing Balm to their Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser. This cleanser contains ceramides, prebiotics and colloidal oatmeal and is SUPER creamy and plush feeling in consistency. There is a bit of a scent, but it is very light and my skin loves this cleanser! It truly does feel gentle on the skin, almost like a massage and is a cleanser I legitimately look forward to using! I actually ended up buying the full size of this last Fall because I knew I would want more!
Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore Tight Toner
I feel like I’m at a stage in my skincare journey where I need to lay off the acids and generally exfoliating as much as I used to. While I am sure a PHA and BHA toner would be effective for a lot of skin types, I just didn’t enjoy using this type of toner as I prefer my toners to be sprayed on and more hydrating/refreshing. I have now taken my exfoliation routine down to 1x/week at most so a toner like this, even as gentle as PHAs are (bigger molecules that gently exfoliate) is not necessarily something I want to have as part of my regular routine. I think I am also sick of this artificial watermelon scent which is what this toner smells like.
Strawberry Smooth BHA + AHA Salicylic Serum
Instead of the toner, I thought “why not use this serum instead?” This is a true treatment that I could use 2-3x/week for brighter skin. This did not work for me either and it’s not very often that I don’t get along with a skincare product! Firstly, it smelled really sweet. I guess I must be old now because all of these candy scents I just don’t enjoy in my skincare. Secondly, this serum kept making my skin look a little like crap. I looked a bit blotchy and red, so I dialled it back and switched to 1-2x/week, but my skin didn’t see any improvement until I stopped completely. I also felt like it made my skin greasy and it just didn’t look even-toned anymore. I really wanted to like this serum as I like BHA and AHA combination products, but after a few tries I didn’t want my skin to look lacklustre anymore. Very sad.
Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops
When it came to brightening, I liked the Niacinamide Dew Drops more! They didn’t make my skin red and I liked the texture and the slight glow it left on my skin making it really lovely for during the day. Though the watermelon scent was still present, it was far less fragrant than in the toner and BHA + AHA serum. THIS I would get in the full size! I am also interested in the Hue Drops version!
Plum Plump Hyaluronic Cream
Right away, the fact that there was next to no scent I already liked this moisturizer! I don’t know what I was thinking buying this Glow Recipe set when the scent of their products is kind of iconic for them. This moisturizer was perfectly pleasant, hydrating, but isn’t something I haven’t experienced before. The texture was cushiony and pleasant, but I do not see myself buying a full size of this.
Final verdict: Well, I’m definitely glad I got the baby version of all of these products! I did discover two products I enjoyed (cleanser and dew drops) and look forward to getting the full sizes during the VIB Rouge event! Are you still a Glow Recipe fan after all of these years? I know this brand caters to a younger demographic, but the ingredients are decent and of course the packaging is very aesthetically pleasing.
You can fund all of these products at Sephora and the Glow Recipe website.
